Determined to break into acting, Sweeney successfully auditioned for a part in the independent horror film ZMD: Zombies of Mass Destruction (2009), which was filming near her hometown. Her younger brother, Trent, also made an appearance in the film. Sweeney eventually convinced her family to move to Los Angeles so she could pursue an acting career.
Her early roles included appearances on the television series Heroes (2009), Criminal Minds (2009), 90210 (2010), Grey’s Anatomy (2014), and Pretty Little Liars (2017).
